Eating breakfast is so good for you.

If you’re one of those people who skip morning meals, I’ve got one question for you…

WHY?!

Seriously. Why?

A healthy, protein packed meal is oh so important for your energy, metabolism, and uh…taste buds. Oh those glorious little taste buds. What would life be without them?

I”m all about breakfast. My day just doesn’t start off right without a good meal. Heading out to face the world without it is like running into battle unarmed. All odds are against you and you’re probably looking pretty weak.

Okay, a bit extreme but I think you catch my drift.

My usual go-to is bacon and eggs, however after realizing I should probably find a way to get more vegetables in my diet, I decided to try out a new protein/veggie/fruit smoothie.

Snacking on raw veggies just doesn’t do it for me. I can’t seem to find a way to make myself eat stuff I don’t enjoy.

Solution? Blend it up in a shake with better tasting ingredients!

This smoothie  was inspired by a few different friends of mine, the Boices and Topher. It’s certainly not new under the sun, but I didn’t follow any particular recipe. The combo sounds a little funky…it’s hard to believe spinach would mix in well with the other ingredients, but I assure you, it does and you hardly taste it.

Oh yeah, did I mention it’s bright green? That’s always fun.

Here’s what I used:

Ingredients:

Serves 1-2 (1 large cup)

  • 1 cup Almond milk (unsweetened or sweetened will do)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 2 cups raw spinach
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 small banana
  • 4-5 ice cubs
[/unordered_list]

Directions:

[ordered_list style=”decimal”]
  1. Add almond milk (if your protein powder is pretty sweet, I’d recommend unsweetened almond milk), 1 scoop of protein powder (or however much you want), almond butter, banana, spinach and ice cubs in the blender.
  2. Blend it well for 30 sec – 1 min
  3. Pour into a cup and devour.

Truth be told, you can make this for any meal of the day. It’s super filling and full of nutrients, vitamins, and protein.
