We’re coming up on week 4 of project #shakeitup…my how time flies!
I, for one, have really enjoyed having these weekly challenges. If you’ve been following along, I hope you’ve enjoyed it too!
Intentional thought directed at someone else has been my favorite part of this experiment. Ideally, it’s how I should be living everyday; but in all reality far too much of my time is spent on me, myself, and I.
I’ve been writing down each weekly challenge on a post-it note and sticking it to my computer screen at work as a reminder to keep it in the forefront of my mind.
This past week’s challenge was:
Show recognition to someone in your life.
I chose a co-worker who I felt could use both personal and professional recognition. Where I work, our culture is everything to us. It’s what we claim makes us so different from many other companies. And while no work culture is perfect, when ours is lived out correctly, it can be pretty spectacular.
I sent this individual an email thanking her for specific characteristics she demonstrates both at work and in her relationships with people. I wanted her to know that her efforts do not go unnoticed and that she has inspired me to stand up for what I believe in and strive to be the kind of role model I want to look up to myself.
Hopefully the note brought her some encouragement and fuel to keep going. For me, it felt so nice to pause and appreciate someone for the positive change they make.
What about you? How did you choose to show someone recognition?
I’d love to hear about it. Simply leave a comment below to share.
The challenge for week 4 of project #shakeitup is:
Buy something trivial for someone else that you would normally buy for yourself.
And don’t forget! If you capture and share your challenge with a photo, label it #shakeitup. You can find me on Instagram @tinyfisch.
