Fruit smoothies are a healthy, tasty way to fill your stomach and give you a burst of energy with natural sugars. Perfect for breakfast, or any meal for that matter.
There are so many ways to make a good smoothie. In fact, it’s difficult to make a bad one when your main ingredient is fruit.
This combination is a current favorite of Big Fisch and mine. We drink it precisely every other morning, often with a side of bacon and eggs. But this smoothie is filling enough that you really don’t need anything else with it.
Instead of milk, we use Almond Milk to keep it dairy free. It also happens to be paleo diet friendly, something you can read more about here. Big Fisch and I don’t eat a strict Paleo diet, but we do follow many of their recipes and basic principles because we’ve noticed a decrease in headaches and a happier digestive system. We use almond butter for the added protein which makes it more filling, and ground flax seed for it’s high fiber content and omega-3 fatty acids (ground is easier for your body to digest).
To make this Strawberry Banana Almond smoothie, you will need:
Almond milk, strawberries (we use frozen), a banana, ground flax seed, almond butter, and ice (not pictured).
For 2 servings, throw in 1 cup almond milk, about 8 large strawberries, 1 banana, 1 tbsp almond butter, and 1-2 tbsp ground flax seed. Here I made a smoothie just for me, so I cut my quantities in half.
Throw a few ice cubes in if you prefer a thicker consistency.
Blend it all together and photograph the yucky looking almond butter stuck to the side of your blender.
You may need to stop and stir it around a few times so that all the fruit gets completely blended.
Pour it into a glass that belongs to your mother-in-law (Hi Glenda! Sorry we haven’t returned it yet…) and drink up and enjoy!
